E-letter marketing  or email marketing is the most effective part of online marketing  and it can explode your profits into the stratosphere. For the amount of money and time it involves, it gives by far the most return on your capital.  Here is your introduction to email marketing.

 Ok, there is a recession. And yes, you are trying to cut costs. And if I am not mistaken, you are also trying to cut some of your marketing costs.

But that does not mean you have to stop all marketing. Some of your efforts can be diverted to setting up new and more cost-effective ways of reaching out to your customers. And that makes all the difference! Customers like to buy from those that have made an effort to reach out to them. It's a simple case of supporting a business of someone you know.

Most businesses have collected or are starting to collect an email address as a means to communicate with their customers. Unfortunately most do not realize how big a goldmine they are sitting on. Do you have a list of customers with you? Are you communicating with them regularly?

 There are different kinds of online communication a business can send out. Emails can be in the form of e-zines, e-alerts and e-letters. I am sure you are familiar with what an e-zine is. An e-alert is when you have something important/time-sensitive to send to your customer. This brings us to the question ...

So, what is an e-letter?

  •  An e-letter is something you write to your customers on a daily or weekly basis.
  •  The tone should be conversational. Think of one of your customers being your mom or your brother or a very dear friend. Here you have a pre-existing understanding;
  •  You can add a personal touch to the letter by mentioning something about yourselves or your family.
  • Don't make it look like a company memo or official document.
  • Use e-letters to inform your readers about happenings in your industry.
  •  Add only one or two pictures in the email. There are tons of emails that go out each day with no pictures; which is just fine.
  •  Write in short sentences.
  •  Add a small link to a "Featured Product" page on your web-site. Users can click the link and go back to your site to learn more. Benefits of using e-letters.
  •  A channel for communication is opened with your customer.
  •  This channel is kept open as you keep sending more eletters.
  •  The customer sees the same offer multiple times and may decide to click.
  •  He becomes more familiar with you and your business as he reads more e-letters.
  • Since you have a piece of new information, this does not come across as an overt sales pitch.
  •  Since you don’t need to format your letter, it only takes about 15 to 30 minutes to write a letter.

What to do next.

  • Start writing letters to your customers once a week.
  •  The first installment should have an explanation of why he is receiving this email.
  •  At the end of the letter, give him a glimpse of what is coming next. This makes him anticipate.
  •  Make sure to add an unsubscribe link to your email.
  •  Also add your postal address to the bottom of the mail under your name.

 Ok, I hear you saying.  Deep, that is all good, but SHOW ME THE MONEY!

Alright, alright!  Let's say for sake of an example, you have 10000 names in your list.

If you are selling a product worth $50/- , and you have a 4 % response every month, you just made

 10000*4/100 = $20000/- per month for 2 hours worth of work.

And your total costs? - $0/-
